My childish dislike for tea has ended! I was never a fan of bitter and unsweetened tea but I recently discovered a flavor that made me change my mind – it’s PEPPERMINT! This amazingly soothing beverage became one of my favorite after-meal drinks soon after trying it at a friend’s house. My new obsession with this magic cup of freshness made me do some research about its benefits. But before we go over that, let me first tell you what made me like this tea flavor.
Aroma. The smell clearly tells how delightful the tea flavor is. The peppermint aroma invades the entire room that when you smell it, you’ll feel so relaxed.
Soothing effect & Taste. Peppermint tea has a mentholated taste which made me love it. It’s also not as bitter as other tea varieties.
Digestion. I drink peppermint tea almost everyday, usually after meals to prevent feeling bloated. It helps ease any discomfort after finishing a cup.
Focus. I feel more focused at work when I drink peppermint tea. It may not be coffee, but it helps me think better.
Enough about my personal opinions. Let’s get real with the 7 benefits of peppermint tea:
- Peppermint leaves are used as herbal medicine by the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans thousands of years ago.
- It’s a natural muscle relaxant that helps reduce stress and anxiety.
- It has antioxidants and antibacterial properties that boosts the immune system.
- It’s a good skin cleansing agent and helps increase estrogen levels that heals acne.
- It relaxes the muscles, intestines and digestive tract. It’s a good natural remedy for digestive issues including bloating, cramping, and indigestion.
- It enhances the memory. A study show that peppermint aroma helps keep students alert and focused when studying.
- It helps remove bad breath. In fact, peppermint leaves were pulverized in the Middle Ages to clean and whiten the teeth.
As far as tea brands, I personally recommend Twinings Pure Peppermint Tea which you can find in leading groceries nationwide. A box consists of 20 Pure Peppermint tea bags. It costs around 250 – 270PHP or 5+USD (20 pcs).

I am a big fan of the smell of peppermint, it really does wonders for my mood and energy so I always have some peppermint essential oil going in my diffuser. Haven’t tried peppermint tea, but it must be awesome with a little honey and ginger. Have to get some to get the benefits of more than the smell. Thanks for sharing!
