Back in college (not so long ago), I used to be a fan of Natsumi Hayashi, the Japanese levitating girl who became popular around the world because of her famous jump portraits that creates a levitating-like illusion. Me and my classmates then even planned to have a photo shoot inspired by Hayashi’s concept but we weren’t able to pursue it as we were filled with school projects.
Finally this 2013, I was able to jump high like Hayashi.
On the morning of January 26, I woke up at 8:30 AM with a photo shoot call time at 7:30 AM. In short, I was late. The original plan was to meet everyone at 7:30 and do a mini fun shoot for “FUN” purposes. Unfortunately, my alarm clock failed me.(O_o)
Skipping the part where I had to explain why I was late, they had me put on a casual wear and told me that the fun shoot motif would be levitation. It was a practice shoot so I wasn’t so prepared for it. All I knew was that I just have to jump high and let the camera freeze the motion.
I started at several attempts and started to realize that jumping high while maintaining a calm face and a good feet and hand composure wasn’t so easy at all! (You are free to try it yourself. lol) I had to jump several times to get it right. I wonder how Hayashi manages to jump more than a hundred times all day. ^_^
Although I didn’t get the jumps perfectly, I’m pretty sure that my last jumps were better than my first attempts. At least I know that I need to practice jumping more and probably next time I’ll get it right. haha!
By the way, if you want to try out a levitation shoot I suggest that you do a warm up–a real warm up. Plus, prepare yourself a jug of water and extra clothes, you’ll need it a lot. And just to be ready, buy your muscle pain relief patches in advance. haha! 😉
