Children make awesome photo subjects no matter what they do. Whether they sleep, play or do something funny, they always manage to be adorable without trying.

I’m lucky to have been entrusted by some close friends to be their children’s stylist (*slash) photographer. Here is a recap of my previous photo and styling work featuring newborns and toddlers.

Newborns and toddlers are my favorite photo subjects because they look endearing. I admit that I’m new to this and it’s never been an easy task for me. It’s very challenging and require patience — lots of it. Regardless of how difficult and frenetic it is, I always have fun doing it. In fact if given the chance, I would love to do more of these things.

I conceptualize together with the parents. They give ideas and provide the materials needed. Most of the things we use are already found at home. We try to be resourceful as much as we can.

Next thing we plan is location. It’s important that there’s enough light, proper ventilation and no noise in the area.

I’ve never been of good assistance with carrying infants. I fear my clumsiness would hurt the vulnerable little darlings. I’m only able to give parents instructions as to which looks best and etc.

Styling children are as challenging as styling adults. It’s important to consider not only what looks good but what’s comfortable for the child. The great thing about newborns though, they’re cuteĀ even when only covered with a white blanket.
