Activities to divert yourself from being sad

This could be one of the weirdest advice I’ve written in my blog. Weird as it seems, who knows when this comes handy. Even I had those days when I needed a diversion.

Keeping yourself occupied is one of the best ways to avoid being upset over a heartbreak or a sad day.

Here’s a bunch of things you can do to divert yourself from sad thoughts. I recommend that you copy and save or bookmark this post. If you ever find yourself thinking about not-so-good thoughts, pick an activity from the list and do it.

1) Clean your room. You’ll see the light…and the floor.
2) Call a friend. Try to talk about other stuff.
3) Eat. This is OK but not always recommended.
4) Watch a movie. Comedy, action and sci-fi only.
5) Finish a series. Sometimes 2-hour movies aren’t enough so series are good alternative.
6) Start a blog or journal. It doesn’t matter if you don’t write.
7) Draw or paint. Makes a good therapy.
8) Do your nails. It gives you at least an hour to keep your mind from sad thoughts.
9) Take a self portrait. Smile. It’s better than crying.
10) Listen to upbeat music. No sad or mellow songs! Dance if you please.
11) Watch tutorials on YouTube. Make up, cooking, playing instruments or any new skill.
12) Read a book. Self-help books are worth to try.
13) Exercise. Workout. Yoga.
15) Visit the nearest cinema.Watch a movie.
16) OT at work. Only if it helps.
17) Set a catch up with friends.
18) Sleep over a barkada’s house
19) Get hooked on a game and finish it.
20) Cook a meal.
21) Pinterest. Pin whatever inspires you.
22) Start a project. Art project, home DIYs and etc.
23) Make a tutorial video yourself.
24) Go out. Breathe the fresh air. If you have more time, travel.
25) Do freelance work. Earning extra is a plus.
26) Learn a different language. There are FREE language apps you can use.
27) Treat yourself. Whether it’s massage, a craving, etc.
28) Go to church. Nothing beats a good prayer.
29) 9-GAG. A great site if you need a good laugh.
30) Sleep on it. It’s works all the time.

Remember there are plenty of productive things you can do than worrying. Choose activities that inspire you and allows you to think creatively.

Avoid spending too much time on Facebook and Twitter if you can. Social Media keeps you occupied but can remind you of things that keep you upset.

Use your energy on positive things. Remember the many other reasons to smile about and you’ll feel better. 🙂
